Welcome to the Police Chiefs' Association of Orange County

THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT TO REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS

The District Attorney’s Office is conducting five training sessions on the CJ reforms in November for police officers across the county.  The training sessions will consist of a legal update regarding the criminal justice reforms passed in April and their application to police work and courtroom procedures, District Attorney office policies, and ECAB ( Early Case Assessment) operation.

The five sessions are as follows:

(4 day training sessions and 1 evening training session)

Friday, November 15  10:00-12:30 at OC Legislative chamber‘s room

Monday, November 18  10:00-12:30 at OC 911 center

Tuesday, November 19  10:00-12:30 at OC 911 center

Wednesday, November 20 10:00-12:30 at the OC Legislative chamber’s room

Tuesday, November 21  7:00pm-9:30pm at the Orange County fire training Center

Handouts and training materials will be given during each training session.

If necessary, sessions will be run in December.


Important Notice:
Effective August 24, 2019, the New York State Civil Practice Law and Rules will permit applications for Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), which are designed to take guns away from any individual who is found to be “likely to engage in conduct that would result in serious harm to himself, herself or others.” Among others, police officers, school administrators, and district attorneys will all be proper applicants for ERPOs. Please see the attached memorandum, generally describing ERPOs and applications for them.

The success of any police department in meeting the needs of its community depends in part on providing accurate and timely information as well as various police services to the citizens we serve in order to maintain our quality of life. The principle purpose of the Police Chiefs’ Association of Orange County is to provide a forum to work in cooperation with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, community agencies, groups, or other government departments to promote confidence, understanding, trust, competence and professionalism to achieve our police objectives.

Central to our purpose are the values that guide our work and decisions that help us to contribute to the quality of life in our communities. Our values are characteristic or qualities of worth; they are not negotiable. Although we may need to balance them, we will never ignore them for the sake of expediency of personal preference. They are the foundation upon which our policies, goals, objectives and police services are built.
